WHR-G300N as AP
« on: April 01, 2009, 03:33:16 am »

I tried to add this AirStation to my network as an access point. So I opened the User guide. In the page 23, under title 'Connecting to a Preexisting Network', step one tells me to move the switch in the bottom to position AP. In my WHR there's no such a position, only AUTO-OFF-ON. Which one of those three is the 'AP' position?

I tried all of those but didn't manage to catch the device from the suggested IP (192.168.11.137) mentioned in step three. It was every time in either 192.168.11.1. or 192.168.11.100.

The Switch in the OFF position is Access Point mode. When in router mode it's IP is 192.168.11.1 and when in Access Point mode the IP is automatically changed to 192.168.11.100, so you might have to give your PC a static IP (192.168.11.101 etc) to firstly access the Access Point.

Thanks for the answer, I'll try your suggestion tonight. Maybe indeed also the pc's ip should be static, since the box isn't in the router mode. Although I did reach the box from both ips.

By the way, there's the same page 'Connecting to a Preexisting Network' also in WHR-G125's manual (p.22). Precisely the same text. Maybe this mysterious ip 192.168.11.137 applies to that device..? I wonder if the page has been left intentionally in both manuals.

Dunno about the WHR-G125, but the WHR-G300N's IP is definetley 192.168.11.100 while in Access Point mode, tested it myself.

It's working, despite the manual. Thanks again!
