firstly, do you have data inside?

If no data, then make sure you delete all partitions in the two hdds.

run tftp boot

after restarting and detected on nas navigator,

run firmware update.

as stated in my original post, i have done that tftp thing. my NAS never connects to the TFTP server.

i set my PC's ip to 192.168.11.1

i connect LAN 1 port directly to the PC.

i turn on the NAS.

I start the TFTP server and wait

and wait, and wait, and wait.....

eventually, the NAS screen just goes RED and the NAS naviagator says it is in EMERGENCY MODE....

i press and hold the function button for 5 seconds, still nothing....

i think i need an RMA.....

When it goes into emergancy mode you need to flash the firmware.  TFTP is ONLY to get your unit INTO EM mode.

i seem to be going in circles here.....

my original post states, i am trying to flash my firmware. and when i try i only get a pop up box that states;

could not confirm whether the partition exists

cannot update the firmware.

Firware updating is aborting.

i have the new Terastation DUO and i am using BUFFALO TS -XL / TS-WXL / TS-RXL Series updater....

I'm glad you got it working.  We were going around in circles, but thats due to the misunderstanding about the TFTP procedure.

Congrats on getting out of EM Mode, I just got the TS-R8.0XL/R5 and it went into EM Mode after selecting a Port Trunk. I spent several hours with Tech Support, and they had me add the Debug option in the .ini file, but it still didn't work, I ended up taking the NAS Home and put a simple linksys switch in between the Station and my laptop and set my laptop with the following.

*******IP: 192.168.11.1

*Subnet: 255.255.255.0

*Gateway: 192.168.11.1

I realized the station had to be put into DHCP Mode(did that through the Navigator, by right clicking and selecting configure) and selected DHCP and renew IP Address.  Restarted up in EM Mode which took a little while to get into it. Then I ran the TSUpdate with the Debug mode option and chose force update on it,  You have to right click the title bar on the TSupdate window.

Just thought I would add this to help someone out with another option.

Thanks  s4mb4 . Your tips worked (noformating=0). Currently it is formating. I must say Buffalo needs to improve the open box exprience. This is the worst new gear purchase experience I ever had. Caused me to return my new unit and get another one with the same issue (EM mode). I don't think average customer will go through this. They will go for other vendors. :smileymad:

So listen up Buffalo.... please work harder on your QC and testing. Customer expecting brand new thing should at least work without challenges.
