Rsync shares
« on: November 25, 2009, 12:04:12 PM »

I have two LS-CH500L's that have the same firmware versions (v1.10). One was purchased and configured about 2 weeks ago, the other was bought just last week.

They are on the following IP addresses:

10.11.22.102 (new one)

10.11.20.201 (old one)

At a Linux command prompt, if I can type the following:

[root@samba2 ~]# rsync 10.11.22.102::
disk1_share
disk1_Test

But if I try the same on the older NAS, I get:

[root@samba2 ~]# rsync 10.11.20.201::

I.e.: No shares are listed.

The older one is working fine for my users at the location, with two public shares and a private (confidential) share.

I have compared all the settings between the two units, but I can not understand why one is listing Rsync shares, while the other is not.

Can anyone offer an explanation?

Thanks in advance.

Elliot

You need the Disk Backup option enabled on the shares that you want visible.  You may not be able to do that if you have a Backup Password set on the shares.

Ah thank you. I could have sworn I'd tested that option yesterday, but maybe not!

That appears to do the trick, thank you :smileyhappy:

Hello all,

I want to rsync my Laptop (Ubuntu 9.10) to my new Buffalo LX-WXLA31...

My Firmware ist 1.24

nmap shows me:

Interesting ports on LS-WXLA31.fritz.box (192.168.178.25):
Not shown: 986 closed ports
PORT      STATE SERVICE
21/tcp    open  ftp
22/tcp    open  ssh
80/tcp    open  http
139/tcp   open  netbios-ssn
443/tcp   open  https
445/tcp   open  microsoft-ds
515/tcp   open  printer
548/tcp   open  afp
873/tcp   open  rsync
8873/tcp  open  unknown
9010/tcp  open  unknown
9050/tcp  open  tor-socks
22939/tcp open  unknown
50000/tcp open  iiimsf

I tried several ways:

backintime ... over smbmount ... and also via ftp by curlftpfs mounting.

I never get a good sounding result. The Permissions are away, so a Restore of a snapshot didn't make me happy.

rsync 192.168.178.25:: brings me one share (this one is configures for diskbackup)

I tried several Ways:

rsync ./htdocs admin@192.168.178.25:/array1_daniel (the same with daniel)

With remotepassword setting and without...

setting up restriktions to user daniel read and write access..

I got every time the same:

If the password is wrong, I have to reenter it. Is it corect, I got this:

Password:
Connection closed by 192.168.178.25
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(600) [sender=3.0.6]

I buy the buffalo because the Linux-Magazine in Germany writes an artikel. But at this moment I am very frustated because a Linux-Based System didn't help me.

I didn't also find a information how to backup Linux to buffalo...

I hope you can help me. May favorite way would to be backing up via backintime maybe by mounting via nfs?

The Buffalo-Experts are Linux-Experts. Please HELP me... I spend enove time to this I am ready to be supported :-)

Gratings

Daniel
