Can't access Terastation from PC
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:07:04 AM »

Dear all,

I have a TeraStation Pro II (TS-HTGL/R5) that I am just trying to connect to my PC via ethernet cables; the PC is running XP Pro and is a few years old. Previously I had the Terastation connected in the same way to a newer PC, but this died a few months ago and the Terastation hasn't been used since. A friend set-up the TS last time.

I've checked all the connections and the LINK/ACT LED is lit. Having installed NAS Navigator 2, the PC can see the TS (shows IP address, how much disk used etc) but can't read any content - the drive doesn't seem to be mapped and the set-up tool won't let me map the share - I get a message saying 'Failed mapping. Remote default share is missing'.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

Firmware seems to be version 1.04 - tried to update it but the installer can't find the Terastation attached to the PC.

If your using the Nas Navi Utility and it cannot map the drive try this.  Try to map it just by the IP address.

Goto 'Start->'Run'. In the Run box type \\192.168.11.150 where 192.168.11.150 is the IP address of the NAS. Or, In the Run box type \\HOSTNAME where HOSTNAME is the Hostanme of the NAS. This will open a window with the shares. Right-Click on the share you wish to map and select Map Network Drive. You will then have the option to choose a drive letter. Once you have done so, click 'Finish'.

Thanks Josh, but it appears that it can't find the network path. NAS can still see the drive so connection seems to be okay.

Is it possible that last time I accessed the drive, months ago, I deleted something / the share that is causing this?

Thanks,

S

No.  It still should pull the share folder up when trying to access it.

Try this.

Directly connect your Nas to your PC via an ethernet cable.

Set a static Ip address on your Local Area Connection.  To match up on the same subnet.   If your Nas Ip address is 192.168.1.1 then you would set it to something like 192.168.1.x   If you dont know how then here are the links for Xp and Vista.

Thanks again, Josh. Must admit I'm struggling slightly to know what I'm doing here. I've pasted the ipconfig details below. NAS Navigator tells me the Terastation's IP is currently 192.168.1.13 (I think).

Can you please tell me which details go in the boxes on the LAC3 properties tab for IP address (presume 192.168.1.13), subnet mask (presume 255.255.255.0), and default gateway (presume 192.168.1.1).

Is this right? Having done this, clicking on the shortcut to the Terastation takes me to an explorer box for 192.168.1.13 that shows network resources but no sign of Terastation on it?

Sorry for being such a pain.

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Set your IP address to 192.168.1.20, set your subnet to 255.255.255.0, leave everything else blank.

Magic! Having done that, I was able to browse the Terastation from NAS Navi and create a new shortcut on the desktop that works!

Thanks, Josh, for your patience and for getting me sorted out.

Have a great weekend,

Steve
