How to Prevent Kids from Deleting Files?
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:37:47 AM »

I have a linkstation live were I store all our pictures and videos. My son just got a new laptop for christmas. I want him to be able to access those and to be able to backup to the NAS but not be able to delete any files from the NAS. Is this possible? Or is backing  up considered altering a file and that would not work if I have him set up with a read only rights kind of set up. Is there a way to set him up as a read only user that can also back up to the NAS, back up to the same folders that he is not able to delete from?

there are access restrictions you can setup through the folder setup page, create a user that you know and then don't give them the password, or create folders for them with a user name an password for them and let them at that.  Also you can setup a recycling bin and you can recover your data usually through that if it is caught quick and you have access to the recycling bin folder inside that shared folder.
