Backing up a linkstation to a non linkstation

I have just bought a synology DS209 for my office to replace an old linkstation. We used to backup between our two linkstations but this is no longer possible due to the fact the onboard disk backup only works between linkstations and not with other NAS units. I am looking for a way that I can do a nightly backup automatically by pointing the linkstation to a certain directory on the new drive.

 

Any ideas?

can you backup to a usb drive?  If not we don't support backing up our devices to anything besides usb hard drives and other compatible buffalo devices.

You can use rsync to backup from the Synology to the Buffalo, but not the reverse. Follow the instructions here:
