Is my Linkstation really in RAID 1?
« on: August 29, 2009, 01:15:06 AM »

I have a 500GB Linkstation drive (2x250GB) and i thought I had set it up sucessfully as RAID 1.  I do know I have 250GB of storage, not 500GB.

The other day i was running nASNavigator 2, which gave a status report for the drives.  One drive is showing 20.8GB used (of 225GB) and the other drive shows 0.0GB used, of 225GB. Under Disk Management, it said RAID Array 1, Status Not Configured.

So do I not really have RAID 1 protection right now, and how do I fix it without loosing all my data?

Thanks!

No you do not have it in RAID 1.  The only way to do this is pull the data off and then change the RAID to RAID 1.  Also please remember to keep data backed up for these reasons.

To change it to RAID 1 log into the web interface, go to disk management > RAID Setup and click on the orange tab next to "RAID Array 1".  DOuble check to make sure it says "RAID 0" under raid mode and then just click on "change RAID Array".

Remember if you use a Raid 0 you get the most capacity (500GB) but you lost fault tolerance. If any of the hard drive fails, all data will be lost.
