I recently purchased a LinkStation Duo 2TB running 3.09 firmware.  I'd like to try to go back to version 3.08 to see if it fixes my access problems on my iPhone.  I've read the sticky FAQ on force flashing the firmware and I've made the changes to the .ini file.  This FAQ mentions being in EM mode, but it doesn't say you have to be in EM mode.

So my questions ...

1) Do you need to be in EM mode to run firmware updates in general (even if a higher version)?

2) Do you need to be in EM mode to go back a version in firmware?

You do not have to be in EM mode to run a firmware update or rollback firmware.
