I have had this terastation turned off for about 2 weeks.  When I went to turn it on it beeped and said something about a bad kernel.  I tried restarting it and it now goes into emergency mode, no array info- and is not communicating with the network.  Terastation Client utility can se that it is on, but otherwise cannot communicate with it.

I am obviously uncomfortable moving forward blindly- I looked at the stickies but how should I proceed?  I get no other error messages.  It was working fine previously.

Thanks for any input and help guiding me through this.

Gary

First try to boot it into EM mode:

and force update the firmware:

If that doesn't work try the TFTP procedure:

Thank you, in EM mode the firmware updated without a forced update.  Unit seems to be functioning normally.

Question- is this a sign that this system is about to fail- should I move data to a different drive, or is this just something that happens and is easily cured like this time.

I have nothing vital on this drive system, but would prefer not to lose this copy in the future.

Thanks again

Gary

It is hard to tell.  It could be a sign of further failure or the unit just lost its firmware.  In any case you should always have your data backed up!
