Repacing system board
« on: April 11, 2009, 11:49:32 AM »
I was told that a chip was bad on the system board of a TS-1.0tgl/r5 system.  He is sending us a replacement.  My question is, will the old array be recognized by the new system?  I thought that the prom on the RAID controller contained the data for the array.

If the replacement is TS-x.xTGL/R5, the new device will recognize the old drives fine. If the new device is TS-Hx.xTGL/R5, it will not, since they use different hardware and software. These devices do not use a RAID controller, as they use software RAID. The RAID information is stored on the disks themselves.
