USB Port Question for LinkStation Mini
« on: April 02, 2009, 07:39:55 AM »

LinkStation Mini 1.0 TB LS-WS1.0TGL/R1WH

This unit has one USB port on the rear.  Can a USB hub ( BELKIN F5U304-WHT USB 2.0 Plus Hub ) be attached to the unit to allow the read and write of portable USB drives. ( PNY 8GB (4GB x 2) Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable or larger) ??

We need an inexpensive way to allow off site storage of certain data.  If the above is possible, then we could swap the Portable USB drives as needed to move some data off site for storage.

If this setup will not work, our next thoughts would be a single USB drive (Seagate ST902504EXA101-RK 250GB) attached to the NAS to allow the read and write, then it could be removed after a weekly backup.

Any thoughts??

Both options should work for you.  Pleae let me know if the hub does not.  (pleae also make sure you are running the latest firmware.

Buffalo Tech Support responded to my presales question and their response pretty much answers the question.

"Unfortunately, this is not possible.  The kernel will not recognize multiple
devices by means of a USB hub.  You may add a single USB drive for additional
storage, but this is as far as the mini will allow you to take it."
