Lost ability to use BitTorrent after router change
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:17:08 AM »

I just upgraded my router and although I forwarded the port I strill can't cut and paste bittorrent url and hit "add" bitton and have it start downloading like I had it before. Now I add a URL and hit "add" but nothing shows up in the download file section. What am I missing?

New Router is a D-Link Dir-825

   Sounds like a port issue. Make sure the forward the proper ports for Bittorrent manually then, it seems like they didn't open up via upnp.

   I tried forwarding my ports but that isn't working. How many ports do I have to forward ? So far I tried forwarding the selected BT port (the one under BT settings) and thats not working. How do I get it to automaticly forward for BT, I do not see that option in admin.

Ok, first you need to provide a bit more information;

-OS and service pack/version?

-Bittorrent client and version?

-Does this have anything to do with a Buffalo device?

-Are you connected wirelessly or via Network cable to your router?

-If wirelessly, are you letting Windows manage your wireless connections or the D-Link software?

-Is your computer using a static IP or dynamic?

-Which port number did you set in your bittorrent program?

-Is UPnP enabled on your router?

Ok here it is

Ok, first you need to provide a bit more information;

-OS and service pack/version?

  Windows vista 32bit Service Pack 1

-Bittorrent client and version?

The Buffalo built in one

-Does this have anything to do with a Buffalo device?

Yes its the LS-CHL1.0 Bittorent downloading NAS

-Are you connected wirelessly or via Network cable to your router?

Buffalo Nas connected vial cable to D-Link DIR-825 router

-If wirelessly, are you letting Windows manage your wireless connections or the D-Link software?

-Is your computer using a static IP or dynamic?

The Bufffalo LS-CHL1.0 is static IP

-Which port number did you set in your bittorrent program?

      6681

-Is UPnP enabled on your router?

   YES

Router is a D-Link DIR-825

The oddest thing is not only can't I get the torrent to start downloading (if I add it from file) but I can't even add a torrent using its  URL link. Since when I do it says adding and I press "ok" but file never shows up in window. I had it working perfectly with my old router so i'm not sure what this new router needs to get things going.

    Hello? can anyonehelp me? I have my port forwarded and I still can't get any activity with my Bt torrent. If I add a url I don't get anything but yet if I add a bittorrent via file it shows up but never starts downloading. Could it be something on my router that is killing it for me? I have a D-Link dir-825 that has all kind of features so I wonder if some of them are shutting me out since on my old roater I forwarded the ports and everything was working fine.

Man, supurb support Buffalo!  Can't anyone help this guy?  Or at least give him some troubleshooting to ease his consumer mind??

In the mean time, try updating your firmware on your router to 1.01  http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=681&sec=1

Reading the reviews at newegg the factory shipped firmware seems to be very buggy.

**Edit** Make sure your firmware on your Buffalo device is at the current as well;

http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/linkstation-live-ls-chl/

I don't have your Buffalo device to test with so I can't be too much help here...sorry.

Good luck!

PS- It would seem that Buffalo has changed the site to not advertise the bittorrent features of this device as heavily now...interesting.

   Ok so I got it fixed and working now. For some reason my Primary DNS did not get changed un the network services screen of the Buffalo device. Once I did that it started to Download. Go figure.
