TeraStation Pro II. iSCSI newbie
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:40:50 PM »

I'm new to iSCSI and I want to confirm if my understanding is correct.  Once configured with the CD setup wizard, this drive will sit on a separate LAN and connect to one or many computers' second NIC via this LAN (Gigabit speed preferred).  The connections are to LUNs, but to the computers they will apear to be local disks.  Is this basically correct?  There is no need for a Windows Storage server or something like that right?

Also....

Can I partition or setup this drive to perform as a NAS at the same time that it's a SAN?

Once the unit has been setup it will have to be connected to one comp and then shared out to the rest of the comps on the network. Once this is done then those comps will look at it like it is a local disk. There is no need for a "Storage Server" but you will need something that can share this drive out to the rest of the network.

This unit will act more like a SAN than a NAS.
