I noticed that there has been several tech sites warning that Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drives are experiencing high failure rates due to bad drivers.  Do any Buffalo Technology storage products use these drives?

Buffalo Technology uses a variety of HDD manufacturers and HDD model numbers.

I have a LinkStation Quad, 4TB.  How about this specific product?

If the web interface is similar to my Linkstation live, you can see what kind of HDD you have inside.

Go to "System Status" then "Drive properties".

You can see the unit name. If the name is ST31000340AS or similar, you've got Seagate HDD inside.

Tell me what's the result, I'm curious :)

I checked all my three Linkstations (LS Live, LS Pro Duo, LS Live w/BT); all have Samsung drives.

Holy cow, could it really be that so frequent HD issues (at least when reading these forums) have same root cause?

I had forgotten about the drive properties screen.  Thanks for the suggestion.  The drives are Samsung HD103UJ.
