Thanks for the suggestion. Just to follow up, I sent an e-mail to info@buffalotech.com and received this reply a few hours later:
Jim,
I checked with my corporate office, and at this time they are not able to access the database where names are stored and clear entries from it. This is for security reasons in the event of someone calling in and claiming they had a specific name even if they didn't. We are working in finding a secure method of clearing this information, but for now you will have to choose a new name.
