LS-CHL 1TB - PVConnect won't stream mp4 video
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:38:57 AM »
I have a new Linkstation Live with the built in PVConnect DLNA server. I can view Pictures, and some videos from my PS3. However MP4 videos do not work, as they seem to appear as MP4 audio files, which obviously don't play. This is not a PS3 issue, as I can play MP4 videos from the media server on my laptop. Browsing the Linkstation Media server from Windows Media Player also has the same problem. Is there any way I can tell PVConnect to treat the files as "video", afterall that is what a standard MP4 file is!

Solved...

Did a bit of exploring and turns out PCast is actually TwonkyMedia server! Nice that Buffalo have included this. You can access management pages on port :9050  from your browser. (LS-CHL).

Anyway Twonky doesn't like multichannel audio in mp4 files (5.1 etc.), so simply renaming the file extension to .avi or .mpg tricks it, and voilla the PS3 can now see and play the files :) (PS3 does not care for file extensions)
