[Solved] Folder access restriction problem
« on: July 06, 2009, 03:08:08 PM »

Hello,

I just set up my NAS with one folder and one user but I cannot restrict access to the folder. Mapping the folder from windows is only possible with my windows user session password. Moreover NAS user password does not work.

Is it possible to map the folder with the NAS user login/password?

Is it possible to map the folder with the NAS user login/password only?

Thanks for your help.

Linkstation mini

Firmware 1.06

Workstation: Vista Ultimate 32bits

Once you map the folder with the password you will be able to access that folder without using a password until you disconnect.  This is because windows has a limitation where you can only be signed in as 1 user at a time.

Well, I never gave my windows session password to the NAS. Does it mean whatever the workstation -not mine- connected to the LAN, it actually can access the folder?

It's not a windows session password, it is a password that you set up in user management.  Other computers connected via LAN shouldn't be a problem.

I set up a dedicated password in the NAS user management panel. But only windows session password will map the folder :( Any idea?

Hello,

1. I log in LinkStation Web Administration interface.

2. On "User Management" I Add a Local User with a dedicated password.

3. On "Shared Folders" I add a Folder, enable  "Access Restrictions" and put my newly created user in the Read/Write box.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Exactly I want you to map the restricted share first.  So disconnect from every mapped drive on the computer (right click on the drive and go to disconnect).  Then restart the computer, when it comes back up I want you to map the folder that you enabled access restrictions on.  Then you can map the other folders.

This is a windows limitation that only allows you to log in as one user at a time so if you map a non-restricted share first you will automatically be signed in as guest.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before.
