MediaStation DVSM-P58U2 Hangs when burning DVD-R
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:33:56 PM »

I've just installed my new mediastation and the first time I try and use it, it hangs when burning DVD-R's. It seems to get past the Burn-in and then starts on the tracks. The estimate of elapse time then just goes up and up. I tried Nero essentials included on the Installation CD with no joy. Looking at the DVD-R shows that something has been written. I eventually tried a DVD+RW and that burnt OK in a few minutes. (700 Mbytes). The DVD-R is a Maxell DVD-R x16. 4.7 Gbyte

It gives an error message in a window which I think says "IOCTL error" but i'll need to sacrifice another DVD to find out.

I tried updating the driver, but Microsoft says it is the latest. I'm running on Windows XP so there isn't much to do on install. Any Ideas. Is there a firmware upgrade?

Here is a section of the Nero Toolkit info file

I've tried removing all the drivers including the hidden ones and still no joy. After sacrificing another DVD+R and DVD-R it still does not burn.

Got an error message

"The command failed due to IOCTL Error. Yor Interface or drive may be configured incorrectly."

In case anyone else is interested I found an upgrade to the Firmware to DX14 at

http://www.firmwarehq.com/Optiarc/AD-7560A/files.html

but it made no different to my problem.

I also tried the drive with my Toshiba Satellite Laptop and it worked fine. So it must just be good old Windows or my PC hardware.
