Lost Mac address label?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:28:39 AM »

Greetings,

I've lost the mac address label on my WHR-HP-G300N

I had a firmware update go bad; and I need to do a tfpt transfer to reflash it, but I need the mac address to do that. Any idea how I can get the mac address?

You don't have to use the unit's actual MAC address, as covered in almost all recovery guides - the first few Atheros based buffalo units can use the generic MAC to do TFTP with, for your unit it is:

02:aa:bb:cc:dd:1c

Its with later units that you cannot use the generic MAC for recovery, why buffalo locked it down - i haven't a clue - but imo it was like them shooting theirself in the foot.

THanks I tried the mac you gave with that walkthrough not getting a response from my router. I guess it's dead.

Probably not dead. Those units are very hard to brick, i would try using a hardware switch inbetween and use these instructs minus the files and MAC of course, use the files and MAC for your model, but steps stay the same.
