WZR-HP-G300NH DHCP from cable provider won't work
« on: October 01, 2011, 05:13:06 pm »

Running the latest DD-WRT 24.

WZR-HP-G300NH device will not get DHCP ip address from our cable internet provider (Time Warner).  It's just a generic DHCP request - nothing exotic.

We've tried manually placing the IP info in there and still no go.

Is this a known bug?  Every other router/access point we've used plugs right in and works...

Well, appears we have resolved our DHCP fiasco.

That stupid switch - on/off/auto  that was our solution.

Unsure why they included that switch on these devices.  Read the info on this forum about the switch, still don't see the functional benefit of having such.

Also had to do the power off and repower the cable modem, then the Buffalo device.  Hopefully, it withstands connectivity losses and normal outages without manual rebooting.

Now to get this device working with another random device as a repeater....

Glad you got it working.

I've had the same issue with two of my Buffalo's.  But once you connect it's stable.  Like you, I've never had this issue with any other router.

i have the same problem. my buffalo always has difficulty detecting my DHCP.

i already reset it to factory default for n times!

this is my first router that i have difficulty setting up. in my previous Linkpro and TP-Link, i did not encounter this problem.

i turned it off awhile because i had to transfer it to another location. and then when i powered it up, no internet access!

I had the same problem, my buffalo router just wouldn't get an IP from the DHCP server.

After long hours of research and trial and error, I finally got it working.

Note: I have the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2

This is what I did:

Unplug power from both my buffalo router and gateway.

Unplug network cable running from gateway to router on both devices.

Wait at least 30 seconds.

Plug in network cable in both devices.

Plug in power to buffalo router.

Wait 10 seconds.

Plug in the power to the gateway.

Then I got IP from DHCP server and internet.

Hope this helps someone.
