WZR-HP-G300NH2 USB Question
« on: January 02, 2012, 05:07:04 PM »

My new WZR-HP-G300NH2 works great for wireless devices. I am trying to attach a Fantom Diamond external 1.5TB USB hard drive to the Buffalo USB port so it can be seen and shared by three (2 XP and 1 WIN7) computers. None can find it, though if I plug the drive directly into the USB port on any one of them it is seen as a local drive just fine. Is this not what the Buffalo USB port is for? If so, what must I do to make the drive visible? If not, what is it for? Thanks.

I am so far unable to make my hard drive attached to the USB port on my Buffalo router visible on any computer. I can see it on the router, but it's status is "Not Mounted". There are a number of settings I do not understand. Here is what I have done so far with what I think is relevant.

Settings under USB Support:

  • Core USB Support: Enable
  • USB Printer Support: Disable
  • USB Storage Support: Enable
  • Automatic Drive Mount: Enable
  • Run-on-mount Script Name: blank
  • Disk Mount Point: /mnt

Settings under ProFTPD:

  • ProFTPD: Disable

Settings under File Sharing:

  • Samba: Enable Use
  • Custom Configuration: Disable
  • Server String: Blank Workgroup: blank

Please let me know if you can think of anything that will help.

I have read that if you are using the "Friendly User Interface" firmware, the usb drive must be formatted with FAT or FAT32. NTFS will not work.

I'm having somewhat of the same problem. Maybe the two links will help, but if anyone knows feel free.

Hello all, I have a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2 that I'm trying to get usb support working for. The original Buffalo branded firmware would refuse to mount the usb drive. I've followed what tutorials I've found on DDWRT http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH and http://g300nh.blogspot.com/2010/06/samba-sharing-in-dd-wrt.html with no luck. I've tried ssh into the box and mounting it with

mount /dev/sda /mnt from root and it ends with invalid arguments...

For usb file formats I've tried EXT3 and XFS. XFS is the user friendly firmware file format.

I can enable ftp in DDWRT GUI and log in, but transferring anything bigger then 5mb to 500Gb attached drive causes router to reboot.

I've downgraded to Buffalo user friendly firmware and it seemed to work, but I would like to get DDWRT running, currently I'm running build 18024.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi All,

Right I have a WZR HP AG300H and if you have build 17798, when a XFS format usb drive is plugged in it displays as not mounted. This confused the heck out of me. So I continued to set up the NAS section and enabled Samba. To my amazement I was able to connect to it abosoloutely fine.

So it maybe worth you trying with your model of router if your have the same build version to finishing setting it all up and then trying to connect to it.

Hope it helps!!
