WZR-HP-G300NH DD-WRT 17798 Testing
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:55:50 PM »

well so far this is going very well:

even tx power output is working properly now. if only there was a way for these european routers to bypass eirp limits and use fcc limits insted. would get more output power then since europe is limited to 20dbm by law.

slybunda,

Can you check if DDNS updates work?

Thanks.

Solved - found on dd-wrt forum that ddns updates had been working since 17461 and direct reference that it works in 17798.

Woohoo!

USB Service

Since deploying this router at home in May, first time I've activated USB service and have a small USB memory stick on. The Buffalo DD-WRT page shows it's not mounted but it is and I've created folders and have pixelserv running off the supposedly "unmounted" drive.

Open Vpn client did not work with 17798. I had to downgrade to 14998 back. Anyone with success?

I was able to connect with OpenVPN, but the server wasn't setting up routes for my clients any more, so while the OpenVPN connection was successful, checking whatismyip.com still didn't show my home ISP IP and I have been unable to ping anything on my home lan (including the router).

I'm using a TAP (bridged) setup with OpenVPN.  I found this post on the OpenVPN forums and I'm going to give it a shot when I get home:

My Nexus S android phone seems to be having issues with this new firmware version. Whenever the screen is off, it completely loses its connection to the network (so I get no message notification, no sip calls, etc). It only regains the connection when I turn the screen back on.

Can anyone else with an android phone try this and confirm it for me? I am guessing it has to do with power saving mode.

This is a major issue for me, so I am hoping there is a workaround or something. The transmit power seems to be better in this version, so I don't want to have to downgrade.

Edit: And now internet completely cut out for all computers when I started downloading a large file. I think I am going to downgrade...

It sounds to me like you accidentally set your wifi sleep policy to "When screen turns off" to me. You can adjust this setting from Settings > Wireless and Networks > WiFi Settings > Menu key > Advanced > Wifi Sleep policy on your phone.

I have an OG Droid and it works fine with this update.

Nope, I never touched that setting (and I just double checked it right now).  My phone doesn't actually disconnect from the router, it just stops receiving any network traffic (pings don't work, and push messages don't work).  The phone still shows up as connected in ddwrt.  As soon as I turn the screen on, it gets all of the missed messages, etc from when the screen was off.

Edit: I just realized I didn't do a hard reset after upgrading the router (I did right before though).  Is this necessary / would it help?

sounds more like a problem with your phone than with the router. if your phone comes out of standby and continues to work fine on the wifi, then its a phone problem not a router problem.

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem.

I updated to this firmware from the basic firmware (I had given up on trying to get consistent n-wireless speeds accross the lan on the DD-WRT firmware, despite this being one of the reason I chose the router ).

Every other device at home can connect to the router wirelessly (2 iPhone 4's and my work Sony Vaio laptop) but my main laptop (Packard Bell Easynote TJ67, Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adaptor) refuses to connect through windows 7.  I have tried all variety of fixes from dropping to 20Mhz, different security settings, rolling back the adaptor drivers but still no joy.

Re-installed V 1.79 of the basic firmware and all is well again.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved, as I can not find any similar complaints, so I fear it may be a problem with my setup.

Did you delete your wifi settings and then try connecting?  My Win7 laptop wouldn't connect until I did that.  (Networking and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks).

i had a laptop that did that, had to put in the wifi details manually. then power cycle the laptop, as in do a shutdown and then power on the laptop again and then it connected ot the router. was laptop problem.
