Continuous network activity to address buffalo.setup
« on: June 04, 2011, 12:32:53 PM »

I have a WHR-G125.  I do not use wireless and it is turned off.

Looking at Win 7 Resource monitor there is a continuous network activity involved with the router itself.  The addresses shown are buffalo.setup.  There are two instances shown.  One marked system and one svchost(netsvcs).  While writing this message a third started for (network services) and then went away.  There is also intermitant traffic to 198.168.11.255. I don't know of anything asigned to 255.

Can anyone explain what all this is please?

255 is a broadcast address, meaning everything on the network will receive it. The router being the host makes sure devices are still available so it can send unreachable messages if need be. That is why you are getting traffic.

Does that activity also account for the other instances?

It may be a dumb question, but could someone please answer "Does that activity also account for the other instances?"?

What other instances? Do you  have any Buffalo software installed on your PC?

I have not installed any Buffalo software.  What I am refering to is the "buffalo.setup" I mentioned in the original post.

Buffalo.setup would only be some kind of program that has been installed on to your PC. I would check your add and remove programs list to make sure that no Buffalo software is installed.

That was one of the things I did when I started looking for what was causing the traffic. To clarify - "Buffalo.setup" appears as an ADDRESS not as an application.

This is a clean install of Win 7 and I have not done anything to the router for years.
