wireless access point WHR-HP-G300N
« on: May 14, 2011, 03:25:31 PM »
I have a small, home network. It is comprised of six computers plus one that is a gateway and firewall. Only four of the systems are active. The IP addresses are all static from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.15. The systems are connected through a passive hub (not a switch). Call the systems C,D,E and F. C is a Dell Dimension 3000 under Slackware 12.2. D is a self-assembled box (AMD K8, MSI system board) dual boot Windows 98se and Slackware 12.2. E is a Compaq Presario SR1650NX dual booting Windows XP and Slackware 12.1. F is a Toshiba Satellite L655 dual booting Windows 7 and Slackware 12.2. The gateway/firewall is a very old 286 under Coyote Linux, booting from a write-protected floppy. I would like to connect F wirelessly using a Buffalo Air Station Nfinity High Power (WHR-HP-G300N) between F and my hub. I do not wish to disturb the rest of my network. Is this possible? If it is possible, what modifications need to be made to the "User Friendly" interface? Thanks......

Yes, you could set this up. Flip the switch on the back to off. Then log in to the unit at 192.168.11.100 and change the IP address to something that is available on your network. Then it should be on your network and should be sending out wireless.
