WHR-HP-G300N signal strength low
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:12:37 AM »

Hi there,

I just got this router today and was super excited to set it up.  Things do seem fairly fast, browsing is quicker and transferring files to my NAS is faster too.

However, I noticed that my signal strength is somewhat low..around 45% and i'm not even far from the router at all...i'm probably like 15 feet away max!

My old linksys strength would be 100% sitting in the same spot.  What gives?  Any idea of how to tweak this?  Here is a screenshot of my current settings:

I'm sitting a little farther away now..and i'm at 29% signal strenght!  argh!

Any help? :smileysad:

I would go into the webgui under Wireless > Advanced settings and set the dBm to 19 or 17, reboot, then try, don't leave it default 20 or it will fall back to 13, as you are seeing in your pic.

Tried that, even at 17 it seems to drop to 16...and my signal strength is still pretty low:

And here is what I have in the advanced wireless settings section:

I'm also running a Mac..not sure if that matters but trying to figure out if there is anything i can change on my mac's end to boost signal....

Hrm, thats odd, have you performed a site survey to see what channels are being used around you? It could be possible that someone else is using channel 1 and it is causing you interference.

Yeah, here is what I see..there are a TON of wifi signals around me.  Each one seems to be used:

I've tried switching channels around and don't really see a difference.

Hi, have you managed to solve your problem? i have the exact same router and the same problem. i bought this router about a month ago and there was no "low signal strength" problem till about two days ago. but now it reappears from time to time. However, in my case i sometimes have 100% signal strength, although im always connected from the same spot and router is never moved. Interference? I tried to change the channel, but it didnt help.
