Difference between WZR-HP-G300NH and WZR-HP-AG300H?
« on: January 28, 2011, 12:42:27 PM »

Can someone point me to some information that details the differences between these two routers? The comparison chart and the other product detail are just about a "copy/paste" of each other, not much help for someone needing to determine what differences exist.

Appreciate it!

The only real difference between the two is that the one with the A is running the 5.0ghz A band.

So that's where their "Dual band" notation comes in? Seems like something they should add to ehtier comparison chart. Are they possibly phasing one out? Or are they both current offerings? I notice where, on the Buffalo site and on NewEgg, neither have an option to purchase the "A" unit. Also even more odd, NewEgg is showing a "WZR-HP-G300NH-R" version, so seriously, this is confusing.

NOTE: My apologies, the "R" version is "Recertified"...

The A band unit is not available for purchase yet. I'm not sure if the new one is completely replacing the old one. It might be.

There are major differences in the 2, the G300NH uses an Atheros 9132 400Mhz CPU has 32MB flash and 64MB ram, a 3x3 MIMO antenna setup, a 2.4Ghz B/G/N radio.

The AG300H will use Atheros 7161 680Mhz CPU, 32MB flash, 256MB RAM, 2x2 MIMO setup and dual radios, 1x 2.4Ghz and 1x 5Ghz radio (dual simultaneous N)

We probably won't see them on amazon or newegg till late Feb to Mar. Can't wait though, it'll have dd-wrt support right out of the box. Now if i could just find someone to buy my g300nh so i can upgrade... hmmmm....

I live in Japan and recently bought WZR-HP-AG300H, it has been around almost 2 months now.

Anyway except from the HW difference, there is significant throughput difference between using 5GHz and using 2.4GHz band as there is high intereference on 2.4GHz band as used by many people around.

With 2009 Macbook Pro, I could get 100Mbps on 5GHz band (A band), but thoughput decrease around 50-60 Mbps on 2.4GHz band when connecting internet.

When uploading to LS-V2.0TL connected to WZR-HP-AG300H,the 2.4GHz band speed is around 50-60Mbps again but I can reach 150Mbps on 5GHz band,

Hope this helps...

Good router.  No complaints so far after a few days of operation.  As is customary for Buffalo, signals are very strong, as confirmed by inSSIDer.  Everything works as it should, including multiple SSIDs (although the second SSID only supports WPA/AES), USB share, and DLNA.  I immediately switched to Buffalo's firmware from the pre-installed dd-wrt pro using the CD that comes in the box because I use DLNA.

As skyinn pointed out, 5 GHz band works much better since there is little interference.  I have my 2.4 band on 20 Mhz to reduce interference to others in the neighborhood.

i'm in the process of ordering one or the other, i know the g300nh has QoS, does the AG300H have it too? I'm sure it does, It just doesn't say in the spec sheet.

If using dd-wrt on it, yes it has QoS, i haven't ever used the 'user friendly' buffalo firmware long enough to know if it has QoS. I would also say that if you do not have any plans to use a 5Ghz setup, then i would go for the G300NH, but if you do plan to use a 5Ghz setup than the AG300H would be choice.
