WZR-HP-G300NH 1.76 Wireless 300Mbps mode
« on: November 20, 2010, 10:06:22 AM »

Hello,

I have just upgraded from 1.74 to 1.76 firmware and getting wireless issue. I configured the bandwidth of 300 Mbps on router = 40 MHz.

After 10-20 minutes, the 300Mbps Mode will drop from 40 MHz to 20 MHz (Diagnostic-->system info), so my wireless connection will be limited at 130Mbps. At that time, I reviewed my Bandwidth config (Wireless Config--->Basic(11n/g/b)), it says 40MHz. My client's using Intel 5100 chipset. It never occurs when at 1.74.

Broadcast SSID Enable
Privacy Separator Disabe
Wireless Channel1 (Auto)
300Mbps Mode 20 MHz

--->This is the info from System info of WZR-HP-G300NH 1.76

When I reset the wireless seting in G300NH, it will stay at 40 MHz, but after 10-20 mintues, it will drop down to 20 MHz. I thought this issue was from 1.76 firmware, is it right? I tried many times and the result's the same.

Do anyone get this issue? How can I fix this issue? Can I downgrade to 1.74 version?

Thanks for reading.

It's the Intel chipset. Intel is not a fan of using the 2.4 GHz band for 40MHz bandwidth, so it always drops to 130Mbps after a few minutes.

That is not true because 1.74 worked fine with 300Mbps over 2.4ghz. Moreover, every other router of mine stays connected at 300Mbps.

Could you please read again my post? It's router itself. How can wifi card connect at 40MHz if the router don't work on 40MHz?

Anyway, thanks all for your reply.

I found a limitation from the release note of 1.76 firmware on Japanese site, even on US site, they don't mention about this...

Link

Maybe they're different...

? Limitations
1. If there is a nearby access point, double-speed mode (40MHz) can be set to
Normal mode automatically (20MHz) it may be.

Thanks for posting this Diamond. Back to 1.74, I go..This is more of a downgrade than a upgrade. I mean why advertise this as a full 300Mbps router. Ofcourse there will be close by 2.4 Ghz channels close by, unless you live in Antarctica.

Where did you get the 1.74 fw  I would like to downgrade too because im having exactly the same problem . My router came with the 1.74 fw and it alway sustained the 300 Mbps  @ 40MHz  , . After the 1.76 fw was released i decided to try it,  now i regret  because with the 1.76 fw the router keep droping from 40MHz to 20MHz  and the speed from 300 to 130 after about 20 min xactly like you describe it. Can anybody post a link to the 1.74 fw please. thanks in advance.

I have Lenovo T500 with Intel 5100 AGN wireless network card. I have same issue with 1.76 and downgrading back to 1.74 seems to be only solution.

There is something wrong with Intel 5100 networdk card.

Hello Guys,

This was extreme useful. If you want to reach 300Mbps on your WZR-HP-G300NH use the firmware 1.74. The firmware 1.76 is cake, hope Buffalo people is seeing this so they can release a better version or make the 1.74 the latest.

Thanks-

Tony

The way the standard for 802.11n works for 20/40MHz:

40 Mhz is designed for closer range, when there is minimal interference from nearby 2.4GHz interference.

Otherwise, 802.11n automatically switches to 20MHz when noise (other 2.4GHz signals) are detected.
