New wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 firmware out
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:36:57 PM »

Hmmm.

I downloaded the new firmware and tried to update the firmware to my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH (USA Model) which was bought from Newegg about 6 months ago.

Says it is NOT a valid file? I checked the file and it does not even have a .BIN extension to it.

Did Buffalo not upload the proper image?

I am currently running firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896. This file when downloaded from DDWRT did have the .BIN extension.

Anyone have a similar problem, experiences?

I downloaded and unzipped the file, and sure enough, the file does NOT have the .BIN extension (I don't allow Windows to hide extensions, so I'm certain of this).  I don't have the router yet, so I can't try this myself, but you could try adding the .BIN by renaming the file, and see if that lets you install the update.  Good luck!

I thought about renaming it, then thought about it again, because if it is NOT the right file I could damage the unit.

So I will wait till Buffalo itself uploads the proper file (if it is incorrect).

Thanks

Start with Buffalotech FW (not 3rd party FW)

You update through the WZR GUI, not the FW file. There are instructions for upgrading in the txt file. Do not expect to find a bin file with this kind of FW update. In the GUI, point to the FW update file, and update from the GUI.

If you have an older FW like 1.6, you may find it easier to upgrade to Buffalo DDWRT, if you update to the latest 1.74 FW first.

Sure ... I was hoping to help out, but if it could be damaged by an incorrect file, then I can understand the caution, and rightfully so.  We all know firmware update failures have toasted more than one piece of hardware ...

I would guess that one of the Buffalo techs ought to notice the problem you've listed here, and get it fixed.  BTW, I did read their instructions, but nothing was written about renaming the file.  I hope they're quick about fixing the issue!

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "update by WZR GUI".

I thought thats what I did with it and not to mention with the other DDWRT Firmware's.

I go to 192.168.1.1 >Administration >Firmware Upgrade, browse for the firmware and hit upgrade.

I mentioned renaming, but I should have said ADD the .BIN extension to the file from Buffalo.

do this

Clear your browser cache (especially if you've been looking all through the GUI and at the FW update)

I go to 192.168.1.1 >Administration >Firmware Upgrade, browse for the firmware and hit upgrade.

and don't close the browser window until finished. do not rename the file or add .bin to the file name.

Alright.... I will explain again.

I downloaded the NEW wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-14998 last night from my desktop, tried to upgrade and it was then that it said "Invalid file".

So, I re-downloaded the file again this afternoon about 3:30pm, tried to upgrade from my laptop (wireless), looked like it was going to work, then it gave me a different error. This time is said "upgrade failed".

I will clear everything again and try again.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Let us know how you make out on this.  Maybe when you try again you should have your laptop hard wired to the router when you do the upgrade ...

OK...as of 4:43 pm I have tried 5 times to update the firmware and each time it says "upgrade failed.

On the last 2 tries I have rebooted the router as well as my laptop, done it wired and wireless, cleared the cache on it and yet the same result.

I am at a loss as I am pretty technical, not to mention I have upgraded the WZR with other DDWRT firmware.

Again, I am already using  firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896, so maybe it wont update from this?

we haven't tested upgrading from anything but Buffalo FW. Please change to the stock Buffalo FW 1.74, and update from that.

the text notes say to first hardwire your router to your computer.

don't ever do a FW upgrade wirelessly!!!

To revert to stock firmware you need a copy of wzrg300nh_original I found a copy over at the dd-wrt forums you have to be logged in to download it but you can use the web updater to flash back to stock.

never mind i managed to revert back to the user-friendly firmware, all you need to do is download the 1.74 firmware from buffalo site and just flash from the dd-wrt interface.
