Dhcp lease problem with WBMR-HP-GN
« on: August 05, 2010, 05:17:18 AM »

I have a really annoying problem with my WBMR-HP-GN. The unit keeps disconnecting my ps3 and xbox every 60 minutes.

I checked the logs and the disconnects happen when the device starts to renew the lease. I have tried changing the value of dhcp lease, does not help.

The only thing that works, is putting the device into bridged mode but then I can't get media server functionality. I like to watch my pictures through my ps3 but the ps3 can't find my computer if the router is bridged. In bridged mode there are no disconnects.

This is incredibly frustrating and makes the device unusable for most of my purposes.

Does anyone have any idea what to do about this?

EDIT: I have a dsl connection, Sonera in Finland. Firmware is 1.00 and there does not seem to be any newer firmware available.

Have you tried setting a static IP,Subnet,Gateway and DNS outside of the DHCP pool on either the PS3 or XBOX to see how they react then? I'd give that a try.

Set the following on the PS3:

IP: 192.168.11.20
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.11.1
DNS: 192.168.11.1

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thank you for the idea. I will have to try this.

I had tried making a static ip for the ps3 but maybe I made a mistake somewhere.

I will try again with the values you gave.

If this is wireless you may want to change in the router where it says Key Renewal Period  or key retreval to either 0 or like 9999. This is located where you change the wireless password.

Ok, I have now tried both suggestions offered and unfortunately neither helped.

I keep getting disconnects because of dhcpc. This is really driving out of mind.

I googled around and it seems quite a few finnish people have this problem. They are saying that there is bug in this device that causes it drop connection once every hour.

I really wish I had never bought this device. 60 euros down the drain.

This is what happened yet again:

DHCPCLease of 80.223.208.132 obtained, lease time 3600
DHCPC Received DHCP update...
 DHCPCSending RENEW...

DHCPCEntering RENEWING state...

DHCPC

Lease is starting to run out, entering RENEWING state...

So its the DHCP lease on the WAN side that seems to be dropping, sorry, i thought it was the LAN side?

I am pretty new to this and don't really understand why this is happening. When that happens in the log, all my wireless connections disconnect for a while. It's really making gaming for example pretty unreliable.

I have the same problem with same device. Lease time is 3600 and everytime renew occurs connection is dropped. I get disconnected from any oneline games (Aion, Wow) and even Skype calls are disconnected.

My PC is connected to the device using ethernet cable and everything else is according to the provider (Sonera Finland) setttings.

It seems like there is a problem with the firmware?

Encapsulation RFC 1483 bridged with NAT enabled on the box. The problem is fixed if I changed it to Bridged Mode Only but then I loose the NAT capabilities of the device.

I also had the same problems! Really annoying, I have to use Bridged mode only. I'm really disappointed if they don't release firmware update for this.

I have the exactly same problem with another provider in Finland (Elisa). This must be the first attempt from buffalo to make an ADSL box, due to this problem even existing at all - no other adsl box does anything like this. It would be very nice if this bug would be fixed asap. Using 'bridged only' mode without a local nat is not a fix, it's a shabby workaround.

Hi All.

Looks like i'm getting the same issue, although a little more intermittent. Every now and then I lose my internet connection for about 5 mins (connection to the router is fine during this time). Sometimes can go hours and it doesn't happen though. Its very annoying when playing on-line games.

This is from my log file tonight, the disconnect happened about 9pm which seems to tie in with the "udhcpc EXIT" log:

I have submitted this occurrence to the Admin and have him forward it to the UK team.  From there it will be decided if a firmware update is necessary.  Buffalo USA does not make the final decision on another region performing a firmware fix request.

I have the same problem with my WBMR-HP-GN.  Skype calls get disconnected and it's very annoying. Also when I'm surfing, I get this long pause from time to time, pages are just loading and sometimes I get a timeout. This happens with both of my WLAN connected laptops and my LAN connected desktop.

I'm using NAT.

This can happen like 1-2 times each hour and otherwise it's working perfectly.

The DSL-connection itself is working perfectly and I even had the whole line to my house reinstalled with new cables, just in case. The DSL-connection never brakes, and the Buffalo is not showing any errors in DSL diagnostics.

I used to own another Buffalo ADSL2+/WLAN modem before and there where no problems with that one. It was an older model with different design and 802.11g WLAN.

I live in Finland.
