Why can't I write to a USB extension drive formatted Fat32?
« on: February 23, 2009, 10:23:05 PM »
I have a linkstation Pro duo...1.5TB...   firmware 1.09... using Macosx 10.5.5 and NAS Navigator for Mac 2.10....

I have read on a few post after a google search and some say that write is not supported on Fat32.... why would you bother to include it as an option?

How can you claim Mac compatibility yet no file format that a mac can mount and read and write too!

FAT32 drives are not writeable as a share, but the device can back up to a FAT32 volume.

The filesystem of the internal drive does not affect Mac compatibility, since any computer will not have to access the filesystem on the device directly. Computers use the SMB protocol to access files on the device.

Okay so what your saying is that by using the backup option (not the drive share) technically the USB extension drive does write the files to a Fat32 file system!

So can you then take the backup drive and mount directly on a MacOSX machine and access the files directly?

Or is it in some Buffalo backup file system?

If the USB disk is in FAT32 format, it will be readable when directly connected to a mac.
