WDS Mode Security

My friend has a WHR-HP-G54 in his house and is thinking of getting a second unit for reception in the garage (appx 200 ft between house and garage).  The garage is metal so he'll be putting router 2 inside with a cabled antenna mounted outside, cat5 (appx 70 ft)  from router 2 to pc in garage.  The two units will be set up in WDS.  However, from the reading I've done, the only encryption available for the connection is WEP?  WPA-personal and WPA2-personal are not options?  Is that correct?  If so, are there any other more secure options using a WHR-HP-G54  for this type of network?  I would have liked to get the ethernet converter and connect with AOSS, but it's no longer made, and used ones are like gold on Ebay!

Thank you.

Yes unfortunately WEP is the only supported encryption type and I would agree that the ethernet converter is probably the best way to go (considering the setup)
