WHR-HP-G54s with Actiontec (FIOS) set-up confirmation
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:07:56 PM »

I need to extend my wireless range and have have a number of obstacles preventing additional hard wiring.

As disappointed as I am that Verizon supplied equipment doesn't support WDS, I understand that keeps them out of the finger pointing support game.

I'm looking for a little set-up confirmation.

My thought is simple:

Bridge a pair of WHR-HP-G54s;

Turn everything off on the Actiontec (wireless, WEP, DHCP, and MAC filtering), connect primary WHR-HP-G54 via LAN to Actiontec, and place the second where needed (after set-up);

Move DHCP, WEP, and MAC filtering to the primary WHR-HP-G54.

Sounds too easy. What am I missing?

I assume the Actiontec is a modem/router combo?

If so I would recommend disabling the wireless on the Actiontech, then setting up the WDS on the G54's as normal. When done, make sure BOTH units are in Bridge Mode at the end. So your main router will do the actual routing, and the Buffalos will supply the wireless aspects.

Make sense?
