WZR2-G300N slow wireless g connection
« on: January 12, 2009, 02:39:04 PM »

hi there,

im having a problem, i have a 16mbit connection at home, but when downloading i am only getting max 9mbit. its NO problem with the provider or server, because when i switch to my former AP i get fullspeed.

i am sitting right next to the router with perfect quality.

i read the b+g perfomance should not be the best, however i am upset, i want fullspeed.

my current firmware is 1.00_1.26, the newest one doesnt work yet (look at forum thread).

probably some tweaking will be helpful - any suggestions? thx for the help

Does your wireless card support 802.11n, or is it just g? If it's just g, try enabling 802.11g/n protections, and if that doesn't help, try setting the wireless mode to g-only.

im having a "802.11g" wireless card. protections were enabled, i played around with the g-only, and with different wireless channels - seems the device is cutting the speed down at 1.2mb.

i tested the same thing with my Isp's wireless modem and i instantly get 1.6mb with it and its only a few meters next to it.

really no clue why the wzr2 is limiting the connection or what is limiting it? any other opinion?

What is the link speed that your wireless connection reports?

right now the router is set to use BG:

it shows 54mbit on my link.

im using wpa2personal security.

no clue why the bufallo cant get a better throughput.

Something i didn't notice... you said you have a wireless modem that your ISP gave you. What's the IP Address reported by your router in Diagnostic->Internet Port? Have you tried disabling the wireless portion of the modem?

my isps wireless is off! i only turn it on when i download something because with my buffalo it is so slow. my buffalo shows the following:

IP Address 192.168.1.4(Via DHCP)

IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0(Via DHCP)

Host Name buffalo(Via DHCP)

Domain Name (Via DHCP)

Default Gateway 192.168.1.1(Via DHCP)

DNS Server Address :

Primary 192.168.1.1(Via DHCP)

DNS Server Address :

Secondary 0.0.0.0(Via DHCP)

DHCP Server Address 192.168.1.1

he is configured as an AP and gets this via dhcp form my isps modem/router

I believe we've located the problem. Your modem is acting as a router, and so is the Buffalo router. Having two routers in a line can cause a multitude of issues, including speed issues. Try setting the "Router" switch on the back of the Buffalo to "Off". This will disable the routing functions of the Buffalo.

unfortunately this is not the case.

my buffalo is running in Access Point Mode.

the ip I get, is the ip my isp router gives me. so the configuration should be right.

i think its more of a setting like MTS  or so..?

You said that the IP address info you provided a few posts ago was from your router. Could you post a screenshot of the window where the info came from? This may provide me with greater insight.

im sorry, with "router" in the wireless post i meant the buffalo.

the ip information i posted above is from my buffalo device.

so my isp modem is configured to do dhcp, my buffalo is getting a dhcp adress from it and is passing it through wireless.

to make it clearer

192.168.0.4 - is my computer ip (from dhcp)

192.168.0.3 - is the buffalo device (from dhcp)

10.0.0.13..  - is my isp modem (set to dhcp)

i hope this helps you.

thanks

I'd like to make sure I understand... can you post a screenshot of the Diagnostic->System Information page?

Try changing the channel.

If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas. What's probably going on is an interoperablility problem between the 802.11n Draft 2.0 spec and your g wireless card. Until the n standard gets finalized, interoperability between n and g won't be 100%

tried all the channels through, nothing, it stops at 1,2mb.

since N is turned off and i dont use it, the error might not be related to this, but more to the bad firmeware provided by buffalo. i guess i will sell it and go back to my way cheaper linksys AP, at least this gets fullspeed.

but thank you for your help!!
