DD-WRT vs. "Easy UI"
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:33:42 PM »

OK, so I was having the same issue as the initial poster in this post http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Solved-Wireless-Threads/WZR-HP-G300NH-SMB-Windows-Share-Setup-is-it..., where he could not access his HDD connected to his WZR-HP-G300NH.  The "solution" was to switch from DD-WRT to the easy UI.

Here is my question before I decide if I am going to switch. Will I be able to make similar settings as I can with DD-WRT? Such as, using Dynamic (20/40Mhz) channel width, NG Mixed only, and setting a schedule for the router to reset itself (to fix wireless disconnect issues)? There are a few other options I use with DD-WRT, but dont need them necessarily.

Last question, will I notice performance differences using the "easy" version?

I would say stick with dd-wrt, its better in my opinion. If you have not already, check these sites out and this infos link, it will help in getting packages and samba up and going. dd-wrt is far better to me features wise than any stock firmware i ever used, yes a little more difficult to get it setup and working, but you learn alot in the process.

Alright bud have a question for you about the links to get samba working. If you did this yourself using the step-by-step guide over at g300HN.blogspot.com, did you change your drive to ext3?

Right now I have it running FAT32 on my Windows 7 machine. I just don't know if I will still be able to access the drive if directly plugged to my computer in the ext3 format. If I can, I will format to ext3 now.

I am having issues at the moment with the install, saying the drive is read only, so I am thinking it is due to it being a FAT32 system.

I am unsure about fat 32 first hand as i use only NTFS and ext3, once you have setup samba permissions up properly, the drive should end up look like a shard network drive from within windows explorer. According to the dd-wrt wiki this can be done.
