laptop.
« on: November 14, 2008, 10:41:42 AM »

Hi,

I got the access point for my PS3, now just bought a laptop, the laptop finds the acces point straight away, but cannot connect to it, it just keeps asking for a Key or passphrase, i dont what this is really asking for, as the laptop is showing the connection point with 100% signal.

Anyone help please, thanks.

You have enabled wireless encryption on the AP.  You have to log into the device by its IP address

and change the encryption method.

Will this affect the PS3 settings though or the Wii settings?

Yes you will have to change the encryption on all devices.

I changed it, but when trying to connect the laptop to it, it still keeps asking me for Security key or passphrase, what are these? i literally have no clue.

Got to be honest, out of my depth here and at a loss.

thanks

your laptop is asking for a key that was set up on the router.  If you do not know what the key is then you have to log into the router and reconfigure the key.

Bare in mind, when reconfiguring the key that you have to do this from a wired connection and if will not work from a wireless one. Since you didnt say what model you have i will have to generalise.

1. Make a connection from the router to your PC (through the LAN port)

2. Open your browser and type 192.168.11.1 in the address bar and press enter

3. Enter the username "root" and no password (leave it blank)

4. Click wireless Encryption => Select the encryption type and enter a new key and click apply.

You will now have to enter this key onto your laptop when connecting to the wireless network.

If you get back to me with the specific model number i can go into more detail and give you an exact walk through if you still need it.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
