My ISP is roadrunner and I have a motorola surfboard sb5101 cable modem. I can connect to internet if I go directly from my computer to the cable modem.

When I connect the cable modem to the WAN port of my buffalo g54s, it can't resolve a dhcp server when I set it to "obtain dhcp automatically". It spends a long time trying to, and the admin login window pops up asking me to login again and again.

Any ideas?

Also, would I need a crossover cable instead of the regular ethernet cable for the connection from the modem to the router?

No cross over cable is needed, please connect the modem to your router, then power cycle everything.

If that does not work then please set the router up for PPPOE

PPoP is not an option for me... so any other ideas?

I noticed that they use a different subnet mask... should that throw off the search for the dhp?

Thanks! Sav

Make sure the modem and the router do not use the same IP address.

I would use the DHCP dynamic for the router with IP address different from the modem.
