Turn on 802.11n on WZR-G300N? How?
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:08:10 AM »

Hi,

Was working on a neighbor's WZR-G300N today (latest firmware 1.46) and the advanced config page showed only "G" and the only mention of "N" that was obvious was the 802.11n Protection option.  Looking at the manual, it shows that I should have seen an option under the Advanced Setting/Basic/802.11G to set Auto for Wireless mode or choose B/G/or N.  RTFM is always a great idea but I just kept seeing the 802.11G header on the page and must have missed the drop-down box for "Auto".  Is that the case, and when I go back over there and change that setting to Auto then the page header will be something more meaningful?

I just want to make sure they're getting the best speed out of the router, and of course WPA2 for security if that's supported.  I did change it from WEP to WPA/AES but don't think I saw WPA2.Strangely, when I look for the string "WPA" or WPA2 in the User Guide, I don't find it.

Helpful hints appreciated.  Looking at the firmware dates, I'm guessing that the WZR-G300N is EOL'ed  and that's perhaps why WPA2 isn't supported. Too bad.

Thanks for any guidance on the issues I raised.

Rob

I have the same problem, except with WZR2-G300N. I updated my firmware since my connection was slow, the router needed frequent reboots and there seemed to be a significant upgrate, at least by version numbers. Now I have v1.52 firmware installed. Previous was something like v1.03 or so. In the old version I found the choice of mixed N/G or just N or whatever as advertised. In this new firmware I no longer find anything to configure it to use the N functionality. Where is it? What happened to it?

I only see the exact same as robcohen describes here, N protection option and no choice of which mode (b/g/n). I have N enabled clients and only bought the box to get N wireless as advertised. Where is it now?

Same here. I updated my WZR2-G300N to 1.52 (06/10/2008) and now this wireless router is B/G only.

This update is downloaded from europe region.

Please fix this firmware, or put original (working) firmware available.

Thanks.

Yo, Buffalo -- does anyone from Buffalo actually read this forum?

Some of us reading/posting here are actually professionals who serve clients out in the field.  Never heard much good or bad about Buffalo until my recent experience with the one client who now has a firmware issue.  Not sure I'd recommend Buffalo gear in the future based on my experience.  Just giving you the facts -- if you want my business you have to earn it.

Buffalo is in testing this as we speak, this new issue has been sent to our development team and we will have an answer for you soon.

What firmware version are you currently on?

Good to know they're working on it.  I uploaded the latest version firmware from the Buffalo site, 1.46.

How will we know when it's fixed?

Thanks,

Rob

I have the same problem, which is really poor show seeing as i bough this for its draft-n ability.  The connection speed is slow and weak, and drops off completely upstairs; something my previous router, over four ears old, never did.  Unless this draft-n option is sorted out soon, i'll have to be returning both the router and adaptor i bought.

We are testing this in our labs, has any one tried to roll the firmware back to a known working version?  If so what was the result.

I have now 1.52 version, and theres only 11g. Old firmware had much more options, including 11n.

I would roll back to my old firmware, if I can download it. But 1.52 is only that is available. There is 1.46 also but that is some .enc and my wzr2-g300n won't eat it. There is some other version in US region, but this europe wzr2 won't accept it.

So please, tell me how to roll back that original firmware, and I'm more than happy to do it.

Thanks

im receiving similar problems. however its for a different model. im using WHR-G300N running with the default firmware 1.60. there are no options for me to set it up to draft N. its still on wireless G and the signal is not very strong either. any ideas how to solve this? ive found no reference to this model on any website too except the japan website.

I don't think anything has been done. I just realized today that we've been taken. I've tried rolling back the firmware but it doesn't work.
