RAID is not a replacement for a backup! Here's why.
I can't access shared folders with access restrictions enabled. Get a Windows Security "Enter Network password" box that looks similar to this... https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1124&bih=914&q=windows+security+dialog+box&oq=windows+security+dialog+box&gs_l=img.1.0.0j0i24l4.2059.12620.0.15484.27.13.0.14.14.0.62.631.13.13.0...0.0.0..1ac.1.16.img.O3mYPXjGo7A#safe=off&hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=windows+8+security+dialog+box+enter+network+password&oq=windows+8+security+dialog+box+enter+network+password&gs_l=img.12...44504.54002.10.57203.23.23.0.0.0.0.82.1028.23.23.0...0.0.0..1c.1.16.img.gi40ro59cyA&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47534661,d.b2U&fp=cfb164112e1484b8&biw=1124&bih=914&facrc=_&imgrc=AqVS7blBT6-npM%3A%3BV8badb0u5A_VkM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.neowin.net%252Fforum%252Fuploads%252Fmonthly_10_2011%252Fpost-14624-0-00930100-1319288885.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.neowin.net%252Fforum%252Ftopic%252F1033675-windows-7-keeps-asking-enter-network-password-to-connect-to-network-pc%252F%3B438%3B319but on the bottom itsays "x Access is denied". Whatever I enter as password, I get an error that states Linkstation is not accessible. Can anyone help?
What OS and from how many PCs? Do you have access restrictions enabled?
OS is windows8 pro; 2 PCs; access restrictions are enabled. If I disable acces restrictions, the problem goes away,

Have you made sure that your windows username and password is the same as the one used by your HS-DH500GL?
No, but I will do that now.
No, but I will do that now. My linkstation still has default user name/password. admin and password. I think I can change the password for admin, but I don't see how to change the user name.

You should not use the admin for file access. Instead you need to create an additional username and password.
OK, changed login names and passwords of computer, linkstation and user with access to share the folder to match each other. Still cannot log into the shared folder.

Have you set the permissions on the linkstation for the shared folder so that username can access read/write?
yes

Ok, have got the following ticked on the shared folder?
Shared Folder Attributes: Read & Write
Shared Folder Support: Windows
I tried the following test. Since I cannot change the user name of the linkstation, I have left it as admin and set the password to "test". I then went into Windows and set the windows login to admin; test. I went into the linkstation and to shared folders; enabled access restrictions on the folder and gave user, admin (with password 'test') read/write access. I also gave admin group read/write access. So, all user names and passwords match. There should be no conflict when windows tries to go to that folder. Why is this happening?
I checked the windows properties of the shared folder, Since the folder is in the linkstation, windows has no control over it.
Don't know where to find ...Shared Folder Support: Windows...

You need to add a username on the linkstation, you can't change the admin username. Have you got the user manual for your linkstation? The user manual will tell you how to add a username.
