No network connection linkstation pro duo
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:57:42 am »

Hi

I just bought a LS-WVLE43 linksation pro duo. For some reason my router netgear DGN2000 does not recognise the linkstation. No light comes up on the router to show it is connected and I can't see the router in the netgear admin console

I can plug my mac to the router with the same cable and it works, I can plug my mac to the linkstation and it works.

What could be the problem?

linkstation firmware is 1.3.7

linkstation networks setup is DHCP

Buying a new router solved the problem.

But I must say the linkstation is a piece of **bleep**. No end of troubles with it.

1. When I first used the device I put in two harddrives .. One was empty and another had data and it deleted the contents without confirming with me first. So now Im using disk drill to get my data back

2. Now I only want ot use one hard drive.. It was stuck in raid mode, so I deleted the raid and formatted the hard drive from the web interface. That did nothing!!!!!

3. So I took the hard drive out and formatted it myself.. now the device is in emergency mode.

4. Im trying to get out of emergy mode but it wont let me from a mac apparently

This is a nightmare!!!

The web interface should provide me with options to get rid of the raid and work properly. It also should not assume that you want your disk wiped.

Now the linkstation is a brick!

I was able to unbrick it by following the instructions form this link http://www.herzig-net.de/prog/?page=unbrick_ls-wxl

I had to use a windws machine.. A VM did not work because it was not on the same subnet..

What  a waste of time! 2 days lost to researching and testing.. Buffalo really need to do something about their software, all this could be automated in there web interface. I feel like im back in 1980 playing on my apple 2 E.
