Do you, perchance, have a Homegroup?
[edit]
Whoops, premature posting syndrome
The SMB (Samba) Server on the linkstation is kinda old, claiming to be Version 3.0.30 , and well, Samba prior to 3.2.x really doesn't support Windows 7 due to the Homegroup and Server 2008 extensions MS made.

But, that doesn't help us much, except tell us this is a old problem,
http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/6911/1/
Tells how to set a policy to turn encrypted passwords off
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy
Local Policies - Security Options
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Send LM & NTLM responses
Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption
If you can't do a Policy, like your using a Windows Home Edition, then try these registry settings:
###################################################################
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "LmCompatibilityLevel"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "forceguest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0] "NtlmMinClientSec"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0] "NtlmMinServerSec"=dword:00000000
###################################################################
Then hopefully your Windows 7 will communicate with SAMBA or previous versions of Windows Share without problem.
