Buffalo NAS name and web access not working?
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:51:30 AM »

Hello,

Can someone help me please I have spent the last 2 days going around and around in circles and am getting nowhere.  I am not a network whizz (but am not an idiot either so have tried my best!).

I have bought the Buffalo LinkStation Live LS-X2.0TL but cannot for the life of me seem to get it working properly.  I can access through my local network (sometimes its BUFFALONAS, others it 10.0.0.2) and seem to have been able to save my NAS name to buffalonas.  It will not connect using webaccess though.  I have tried port forwarding but nothing seems to work.  I cannot connect using my iPhone either as it says it cannot connect to the server.  I am using a Netgear router WNDR3400v2.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong!

Thank you,

Kaine

If it working on a local network, it has to be a port forwarding problem. It took me a while to set up the modem, my problem was the info.

I followed the instructions on a google search and it stated to put nothing in Trigger Point so I put 0. After a while of it not working I tried leaving it blank. It worked.

Sorry but that doesn't seem to help.  I've tried all sorts of numbers in both Port Forwarding and Port Triggering but nothing is working!  Interestingly I can only connect to the NAS wirelessly on my network...If I connect an ethernet cable to my laptop it doesn't see it???

OK

In the NAS settings, have you gone to the advanced settings and changed the external port to 9000

Yes I've done that.  I've tried everything!  I don't think my device is even registered on Buffalonas.com??

I've tried logging on through Buffalonas.com and it won't connect so it has to be some kind of port issue, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong :-(

The port you are using for web access (47939) is being blocked by your router so there is no out going communication. Contact your router support and get them to open this port to the Linkstations IP address the protocol used is TCP if they ask.

Once you you can verify if the port is open by going to http://canyouseeme.org

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

OK Netgear replied and rather unhelpfully stated the following...

Once the Configuration page opens up, from the left side bar choose "Port Forwarding" under the Advanced menu. Then click on the button labeled , "Add Custom Service"

Type the service name in the Service Name box.

Type the port number in the Starting Port box and type the same port number in the Ending Port box.

Type the IP address of the device in the Server IP Address box.

I've done all that!! Many times!  The Port Forwarding page shows the same numbers as the NAS and additionally, the uPnP table shows the NAS with the correct numbers.  Please help!!!

Thank you,?

If you go to http://canyouseeme.org and have it check the forwarded port does it see the service?  If it doesn't the port has not been sucessfully forwarded.
