: Unable to format USB drive
: dwightturner36 July 24, 2011, 05:33:16 AM

Name:LS-WXL7D2 2TB

Raid 0

Firmware version:1.43

USB1: WD 2TB USB (sata drive with a usb to sata self powered enclosure)

I have the USB drive to use as a backup for my linkstation.(was my intentions anyways)

The drive shows up in the storage list, but when I select it to format it asks for the code then fails to format the drive.

To initially work around this, which is way more than I really wanted to deal with, I formatted the drive in ext3 format under Ubuntu( i installed it on my pc with windows)

this went fine. I had to hook it up with the sata cable to my pc direct to get this to work.

I could then see the drive and select it to backup under the backup tab.

When I open my network, the USB1 doesnt show up with my other folders. Also the info under the disks tab still shows no details for the drive, only its name.

What do I have to do to make this thing be able to format my USB drive?

Put this as solved because I am sending this back to dell to get my money back.

This problem still exists. Anyone find a reasonable solution?

The same problem here. My USB connected (NTFS) drive is only recognised for 2GB (out of the 320), and it is impossible to format it through the web interface under system, storage and then disks.

Model Name:  CS-WX, firmware version 1.13 built 2.35

What to do?

Add me to the list as well.

I emailed technical support a week ago, received one reply asking the make and model of the external hard drive, and then nothing.

Not very impressed so far...
