My LinkStation Duo box failed, the ethernet card died... So, replacement box is on the way, LOTS of data on the old box. Can I simply pull the drives out of the old box and istall them in the same positions in the replacement box? The box is a LinkStation Duo, WX20TLR1.
If it is an identical unit, then it should work if the firmware is the same version.
You have four main options for data recovery.
1) Put the drive(s) in an identical unit. Do to the difference in kernals, you would need the same model number in order for the drives to be plug and play in a second unit.
2) If you have access to a Linux based computer, you can read the drives with no additional software needed aside from something to create the RAID.
3) A data recovery program. We tend to recommend UFS Explorer http://www.ufsexplorer.com as it can translate from the XFS format the Terastation uses to the Windows NTFS format.
4) A data recovery service. This is the most expensive, but also the most reliable option. We recommend http://www.drivesavers.com
The replacement box arrived today. I swapped the drives and did an EM Mode reboot and everything came right back. Life is good again. Support was terrific, thank you.
