: LinkStation Duo and Windows 7 Offline Folder issue
: WildWeasel109 October 09, 2010, 08:17:03 AM

Hi,

I have a LinkStation Duo (LS-W2.0TGL/R1-R3) with the latest European firmware (3.09) installed.  The unit works fine.  I have a Windows share on the unit which has data copied onto it using MS SyncToy, no problem here.  The issue comes where I try to sync (using Windows 7 Offline Folders), the content of the share on the NAS to a Windows 7 machine.  The PC sees the share and is able to access all data, the Sync process starts and then reports an error, "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.".  I've checked all of the news groups and support sites and tried a number of recommendations, including enabling OPLock in Windows 7, re-initialising the Windows 7 CSC.

I've noticed that the Sync process creates the folder structure on the PC and this is visable when offline.  The issue seems to be that Files are not copied from the NAS to the Windows PC and hence are not available offline.

Any ideas?

Hi

Did you ever get anywhere with this?  I am having exactly the same problem and have now tried multiple Windows 7 machines all producing the same result.

I have to say this is very dissapointing.

Hi,

I did get a response, but it wasn't the one I wanted.  It seems that the LinkStation Duo doesn't support Windows 7 and never will.  If you want offline functionality then upgrade to another product.  I got around the problem with Microsoft SyncToy!

The pro duo does support Windows 7 but just not that utility they were using.

I'm having the same problem with a Buffalo Terastation. Maybe I'm being slightly naive, but surely all that the making the folder availble offline synch process has to do is compare the folder  / file structure on the Buffalo with what I have on my laptop and then make saves / updates accordingly. I don't really see why the terastation should care how it's being accessed?

There was an article which suggested I needed to turn off the Recycle Folder or trash can, as this may be causing an issue, not that I understand why. I'll try that but it is annoying.

Also this ONLY seems to affect the majority of .pdf files. I have some Word Docs and Excels etc. and a few .pdf s  that it deals with perfectly.

Any help direction greatly appreciated.
