: Pro Duo Drive Mapping Issue
: Electropop November 29, 2008, 12:04:57 PM

I recently bought the Linkstation Pro Duo R1/V3.  I've been going round and round trying to figure this problem out.  Maybe you guys can show me some light...

Setup was no problem. I setup an additional user account on the NAS.  When I mapped the NAS drive to my XP desktop, as expected it asked me for an access password and I was in.  Same with my Vista laptop.  No problem.  When I mapped the NAS to my XP laptop, it just let me in, no password, no nothing...  On all three computers, the computer login pw is different from the NAS access pw.

My concern is that there really isn't any security - anyone cast get in. I tried the NAS with and without access restrictions.  Nothing changed.

Any help is appreciated!

Thats quite an interesting problem. What happens if you disconnect your vista and desktop share, then try to access via the laptop?. Had you connected to the NAS, even as a test, before trying to access the protected share. XP will cache access credentials. Reboot the laptop and see if you can still access without providing password.
