: Linkstation Duo R1 storage capacity
: satoshi March 31, 2010, 12:44:17 AM

The 1 tb Linkstation Duo /R1 (not the pro Duo) I assume comes with two 1 tb drives in RAID1, right?

Can I set this up to have 2 tb capacity if I don't care about redundancy?  Can I add a 1.5 tb drive to make it 2.5 tb, or it's artificially limited to 1 tb?

Or it always has to be setup as a RAID, whether RAID 1 or RAID 0?

The 1TB LS Duo has 2 x 500GB HDD's... the 2TB LS Duo has 2 x 1TB HDD's etc...

As for RAID, as far as I'm aware, if you use the LS in RAID 1 or 0. You have to have two drives the same size or else you won't be able to utilize the extra space of the bigger drive. If you set the LS Duo up for NORMAL (No RAID) you can use different size drives as they are used independently and you can use all the space of both.

Hope this helps:smileywink:

"Can I set this up to have 2 tb capacity if I don't care about redundancy? " - Yes then setup a RAID0

"Can I add a 1.5 tb drive to make it 2.5 tb, or it's artificially limited to 1 tb?" - Yes but its not supported on this board

"Or it always has to be setup as a RAID, whether RAID 1 or RAID 0?" No, you can use it as two individual disks if you want (no RAID)
