: Terastation mapped drive stops working
: mh1983 September 07, 2020, 03:07:03 PM
Hi, for years, I used Win 10 to map a network drive to my Terastation share (TX-XEL model). Lately, the mapped drive has stopped working. When I disconnect and remap the drive through Win 10, it works again, but usually within a day the drive stops being accessible again.

Any suggestions here? I have SMB1 enabled since the station doesn't support SMB2. It has Raid 5 and all drives are healthy.

I wonder in Microsoft change some behavior around auto-connecting to shares on SMB1 server or something. Might be worth searching around Microsoft-type forums to see if that's happening for other devices.

If you have some linux experience (or want to develop some) you could install Debian on the TS-XEL and then try with SMB2:

Good point about change in MS behaviour! From a cursory glance, looks like you're right and something changed recently.

So cool about Debian being an option. Have wanted to plug the SMB1 vulnerability for some time. Will look into this soon. The main functionality I use (other than a share) is the DLNA server. Would that be affected?

The Debian install gives you a very basic Linux installation, basically just the bare OS and the SSH server. From there you can set up Samba and a DLNA server and any other services that you need. It takes a bit of manual work but there are guides available on the web for each of those.
