: LS220 and 210 Specifications
: CaptainJack June 08, 2020, 10:38:35 AM
Hi,

I'm a long time Buffalo NAS owner.  An original 210 and a 220D. Both 5 and 6 years old, respectively.

I am about to purchase a new 4mb 210 and am 8mb 220d, and I cannot get consistent specs on the new hardware.  Can anyone answer these questions for me please?

What HD's are now shipped in each NAS?
What is the rotation speed?
Is the USB interface still 2.0 or is it now 3.0?

Is the native file system still XFS? I ask because the a specifications sheet I've seen has NTFS as the file system.

An FYI. My 220D has the original WD Green Drives, back when they were really good. Now that we know there is a major dispute going on with Western Digital regarding their Red vs. Red Pro line, specifically,  WD is reported my NAS users to be using SMR technology now in the Red line, and the problems with using SMR in NAS systems, I'd like to know exactly what drives Buffalo is using?

The new WD Green drives have all but disappeared,  and are definitely not suitable for a NAS now.

So, what drives are Buffalo using in the new 210 and 220?

Thanks!

CJ

No idea about the actual drives but the hardware/firmware haven’t changed significantly. It’s still USB 2.0 and xfs.

I don’t recall what type drive mine had but I don’t think it was WD.

if you’re interested in the internals I have pictures and other details posted https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

I just picked up a Linkstation 220 based on the text on Buffalos website stating they don't use SMR drives.

Sure enough, it showed up with Toshiba DT02 drives -- which Toshiba calls drive managed SMR.

Something's not right.  I'm on day 3 of a 'time unknown' 2GB nas to nas transfer...

Waiting on tech support to get back to me.
