: folder level encryption
: ryanp September 22, 2019, 08:35:24 PM
Is folder level encryption possible on this device? I would prefer encryption in case this get stolen but password protection is probably good enough since the main goal is to keep the kid out.

I have a terristation 3 TS-X8.0TL/R5

Hopefully this doesn't get buried under whoever is spamming porn on the forum

Looking at the manual it appears they have disk level encryption as an option in the stock firmware. I don't know if that suits your needs or not. It should provided reasonable "encryption at rest" to prevent someone stealing your data by pulling the drives etc assuming it's well implemented.

"keeping the kids out" strikes me as more of an access control issue. It doesn't matter if the underlying data is encrypted if it is accessible via a share that they have access to. you should be able to handle that by giving them their own user and ensuring that user doesn't have access to any shares you want to keep them out of.
