: LS420D0402 - Array1 degraded ... HELP!
: buffuser57 August 14, 2019, 11:55:51 AM
Hello, all.

I'm at a crossroads, and no idea where to go from where I am.

1) LinkStation LS420D amber alert, blinking...
2) Launched NAS Navigator
---alert: "...Raid array is in degraded mode.."  and/or "...too many bad sectors; disk 2..."
3) Turned off NAS, then unplugged all cables
4) Replaced disk 2 with new disk with equal specs
5) Connected all cables, then turned on NAS

Network cannot find NAS, and Array1 is degraded.
Huh?

Running 'Disk check' or 'Format disk' for Array1 warns not to if "...is set as a backup device." It appears that either of these options will delete content on disk. Yikes.
So, what now?

Screen caps might help in figuring out what step(s) I should take that I not loose files & folders.

Many thanks for your help.

UPDATE: 24 August 2019

Failing to establish a connection, and being able to read/copy data on the two disks of the LinkStation, after the amber light began blinking, and after following the steps listed above, to no avail, I turned the disks over to Geek Squad to see if they could recover the files from the LinkStation NAS.
They determined that there was nothing to recover from either of the two disks of the Buffalo LinkStation NAS in question; they found no files to recover...
So, apparently, down the toilet goes 15 years of work I kept on an external storage set-up that supposedly has a backup (thus the two disks)...
